The Society tries to play an active part in the community by stimulating an interest in Howden's history and its future development.

Heritage Blue Plaque Scheme

In the spring and summer of 2003 Howden Civic Society embarked on a project to outline the social history and heritage of Howden through a series of blue plaques on important buildings.

Support from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Howden Town Council enabled the Civic Society to design and install the plaques.

R100 Airship Trail

The R-100 Airship History Trail is now officially open. 

The Trail consists of a line of 24 bronze plaques is set in the paving on the west side of the Market Place, extending along the tarmac entrance drive to the Ashes Park.
The plaques mark the length of the R100 and show it in flight; five of them show close-ups of important details of the airship.
