Howden's Heritage

Howden is a small town, although it is growing, and is the main town in the area known for over 1,000 years as Howdenshire. The town was known to exist in the 8th century.

The ambition of Howden Civic Society through their Heritage Project was to:

• raise people's awareness of what heritage is and what it might mean to them;
• create and preserve a collection of information and objects relating to Howden and Howdenshire; and
• make this information accessible to as many people as may be interested via their choice of platform

This website has been developed to include the information that the Civic Society holds and to direct you to other sites where more information can be found.
