Howden Civic Society

Help protect and improve our town

Founded in 1979, following concerns to important buildings and townscapes, the Society was registered as a charity in 1980.

The principle roles of the Civic Society are to:

  • Raise Awareness Of Architectural Heritage;
  • Monitor And Influence The Way Proposed Changes Are Carried Out;
  • Encourage Research Of Local History And Discussion Of Community Issues.

The Society is a member of the Yorkshire Association of Civic Societies and in 2018 was awarded the Peter Spawforth Excellence Award by YHASC for the creation of the Howden Heritage Centre.

The Civic Society is also a member of the Howden Events Group helping to raise the profile of the town along with colleagues in many other organisations and businesses.
